This is one of the newest cult products that still seems to be sending everyone into a frenzy even months after its release date. The Watermelon Glow mask is a sleeping mask from the K-Beauty brand Glow Recipe and has been named the ‘best mask of 2017′ by Sephora and has sold out on the site numerous times. With this product being on trend in multiple ways (hello promises of glowy skin and millennial pink aesthetic) and being super convenient for those with little time for pampering as it is a sleep mask, I can see why so many are drawn to this product. I have seen very few negative reviews of this product but is it worth the hype? In short…..YES, 100%!
This mask is £40.00 in the UK from Cult Beauty for 80ml and is vegan and cruelty-free. They also have a smaller size for sale and have released a moisturiser to continue this line but I have yet to try that (it is on my list of products to test).
ABOUT THE BRAND
Glow Recipe is a cruelty-free and vegan K-Beauty brand that had the intention of bringing harmless and natural products that follow the trends in Korea, to the rest of the world. When Glow Recipe set out to create this product, they really listened to their focus groups to find out what their customers need and want in a product from whether a wash of mask was preferred to what their skin spirit animal is.
The main ingredients here are Watermelon, AHA, and Hyaluronic Acid. The watermelon extract is full of anti-oxidants, vitamins and amino acids that aid the soothing of irritated and inflamed skin, the Hyaluronic Acid hydrates the skin whilst the AHA exfoliates the skin to help with clogged pores, dryness, and acne.

HOW TO USE
To use overnight, cleanse your face and pat dry as normal. Then you either want to take the spatula that is provided with the mask or your own face mask brush (I use one from Boscia) and apply a light layer to your skin, pat it dry until it absorbs and wash off well in the morning.
Wash Off Mask
If you don’t want to leave this mask on overnight, simply use the spatula to apply an even layer all over and leave on for around 5-10 minutes. I have left it on for 20 minutes at the most and have had no problems.
If you’re considering purchasing this mask then I totally recommend that you give it a try because I have seen wonderful results. I have had this product since early February and find that since then I have used this mask more than any other mask/treatment I own. It has a silky gel texture that doesn’t feel sticky or heavy on the skin and instantly feels cooling upon application. It is recommended that you stir this product before each use because of the natural separation of the watermelon but I have never had an issue with it separating.
The scent isn’t too strong which I like because I easily get headaches from strong scents but I honestly wouldn’t mind if it was a little stronger because it smells amazing. I’ve seen other customers say it reminds them of Watermelon Jolly Ranchers and they’re right!
To be completely honest, I simply like to use this mask whenever I want to pamper my skin because it feels so calming and luxurious but I have also found that when I feel my skin is too congested or has some dry patches this sorts out my skin issues in one or two uses. I don’t get any redness or irritation from this which, I can sometimes get from other AHA based products and love that it doesn’t dry my skin out, it does the total opposite and leaves it feeling balanced and supple.
I use this mask at least once a week and have used it 3 times a week at the most. I would say using it on alternate nights is best for the skin, just because of the active ingredient but I will confess I have used it two nights in a row and have even used my Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid afterward a couple of times and have had absolutely no issues but just be careful if you take this risk yourself as it can be too much for some skins.
The wash-off method is my favourite because I like the instant gratification and don’t want to wait until the morning to see results but if you do use it overnight I find you definitely get more of a healthy glow. I haven’t found any other gel-based sleeping masks that feel comfortable on the skin (always feel like I have applied too much moisturiser) but this one is different, it never feels sticky or heavy so I can safely say it’s the only sleeping mask up to this day that I love using.
